Many major lottery winners decide to retire after collecting their prize, but Philip Kavanagh will do no such thing. After celebrating his €500.000 Euromillions victory, this fortunate man from County Wexford intends to go straight back to work.
Kavanagh’s lucky ticket, purchased at the EuroSpar store on Market Square in Bunclody, won him the €500.000 windfall in Ireland’s Euromillions Plus draw on January 9th. One morning after the draw, he checked his numbers via Teletext and immediately rushed to a local store to confirm his victory.
“There they all were, five of my numbers all in a row and I just refused to believe that I had won it. I quickly grabbed my ticket and popped down the town and the whole place was already buzzing with the news of the win so I knew it had to be me,” said the fortunate 46-year-old, who runs his own engineering business.
The lucky man collected his prize at the National Lottery headquarters in Dublin, with his sister Eilish Doran and his niece and nephew, Amy and John Doran by his side. He said he plans to celebrate the victory with his family, but the celebrations won’t last for long because Kavanagh wants to go back to work right away.
“I will be getting straight back into work in my business to bring some normality back to my life. It’s a very daunting amount of money to win but at the moment I have no real plans. I’ll be taking some time out and getting some sound advice before I start spending,” said the €500.000 winner.
