Imagine walking around with €500.000 in your wallet for two weeks, without even knowing. That’s exactly what happened to one fortunate man from Leinster, who’d completely forgotten to check his Euromillions ticket after the draw took place.
Anonymous man matched the winning numbers 11, 18, 22, 30 and 35 in Ireland’s EuroMillions Plus draw on September 28th. He bought the ticket at the Cecil’s Foodstore in Collooney and spent the next two weeks completely unaware it was worth €500.000.
The Leinster resident never went to that shop before, and he only made a stop while travelling to Country Sligo for work. He later found out one of four winning EuroMillions Plus tickets was sold in that area, but it never accrued to him he might be the winner, since he lives far away from Sligo.
The lucky man claims he usually checks his tickets right after the draw, but something was different this time around. Instead of going online or visiting his local shop to check the number, the man stashed the ticket inside his wallet and didn’t think about it for weeks.
Once he finally went to the store to go through his numbers, one of the shop assistants advised him to contact the National Lottery. The Leinster resident had a hunch something amazing is going on, and checked the numbers on his phone straight away. He immediately went home to share the lucky news with his partner, and said he’s thankful that he didn’t end up losing the ticket. The €500.000 winner will use his impressive windfall to secure the future of his young family.
