Most people would want to shout from the rooftops after finding out they became €500.000 richer, but not one fortunate resident of Cavan. After discovering he won a major Euromillions prize, this man kept his family in the dark for days because he wanted to be completely certain about his victory before sharing the news with them.
The anonymous man purchased his Euromillions ticket at Lees Gala Store in Ballyhaise, and it matched the winning numbers in Ireland’s Euromillions Plus draw on January 19th to make him €500.000 richer. His family heard the news about the winning ticket being sold at their local store, but it took them a while to discover it was purchased by someone from their household.
“I bought the paper on Saturday afternoon and I nearly fell off my seat as I checked the winning numbers. As excited as I was, I didn’t tell a soul, not even the wife! I wanted to be absolutely certain about the win before I told anybody,” explained the Cavan resident.
He shared the news with his wife on Monday, and said the victory won’t feel real until she sees the money in the bank. When that finally happens, they’ll use this impressive sum to pay off their mortgage and go on a family vacation.
“This is a great prize. It’s not a life altering sum but the important thing is that it gives us the freedom to live our lives to the full and not have to worry about the money. We’ll meet with our bank manager next week so we’ll definitely be paying off our mortgage and we might treat the kids to a nice holiday in the sun,” said the €500.000 winner.
